New Bailey Chambers barrister offers
multilingual law advice
New
Bailey Chambers barrister Shysta Habib is stepping in to help people
in Bury with their legal problems.
Shysta, who speaks and writes
Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi, is one of a team of five lawyers who who
work free of charge at outreach clinics run by Bury Law Centre. The
clinics have been developed from a pilot scheme in which local organisations
highlighted the need for immigration advice and awareness of legal
rights, particularly for clients among sections of the Asian community.
Shysta
explains, "most
first generation Asian people who come for advice speak everyday
English, but legal wording can be confusing to anybody, so talking
in their first language puts everyone at their ease."
Shysta practises
at New Bailey Chambers in Preston, specialising in civil litigation
and family law.
